First sewing project?

While home I also had some time to sort through old boxes of toys and memorabilia. I ran across one of my first sewing projects from Jr High Home Ec class. I really had no idea to sew and selected something on the difficult level. Thank God my mom was an expert seamstress, making her own uniforms for high school Glee Club, Future Home Makers of America (that's right, it was an actual class...she was the "song leader"), and Student Council. Can you imagine if they made the students make their own uniforms for school groups? Parents would be outraged and tell the school they refuse to waste their time and energy for their precious baby to be involved in school groups. (Finally some sarcasm in the Marma blog!)

OK, off the subject... So my first sewing project was too complicated for a beginner. My teacher should have never let me choose it.

Laugh if you may, but here it is......

it looks great. yes, a bit complicated. thank God for mother seamstresses!

my first {and only?} sewing project in Home Ec was a Gigantic Pillow. Still used in this house too. But I purchased fabric that was little squares pieced together...quilt patchwork quilt like, so really, it looks like i did far more work than sew straight line.

Hey Marsha, it's mom. I do have to laugh at the little cow sewing project. I couldn't believe that the teacher would even think that a beginner would be able to sew something that complicated. I did have fun doing YOUR project. :)

Marsha,
"This is Aunt Shari" lol.
I love your cow pillow. What a wonderful job your mom did in sewing class. Okay, I'll give you some credit too. My big project was a short waisted, long sleeve jacket and big bell hip huggers pants. I remember wearing it a few times. (Wonder if grma has a picture of it) Wished I had kept it. You could have woren it to school for 70's days for homecoming week. I don't remember your mom being the "song leader" some things we just don't want to remember.

So, why don't we have "Future Homemaker" classes today. I would totally sign up.
