Ok, here I go. I have decided to start a blog to give the world a look at what I do in my private life.
Let me start by introducing myself: I am a designer by day for an outerwear company in Portland Oregon. That doesn't define me though. Who I really am is a designer for my own business, Marma Designs. I am also the sweatshop worker for the business slaving away screen printing and sewing every free second of my days. No complaints though, I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!! I wish I could do it everyday. I moved to Portland from Nebraska about 1 year ago January to start as an intern for the outerwear company. Since then I have been hired on as a junior designer. Things were so easy in Nebraska. I would have a booth at the Saturday Market and be the only one of my kind. I was competing against "jewelry" makers. Let's just say store bought beads strung on a piece of string is not my idea of creative. So, when I moved to Portland, I was a little intimidated by all the creative people. I waited a year to even go into the fabric stores. But, I have been bitten by the design bug again and here I go!
So what is Marma Designs? Well, the name came from my boyfriend's little neice, Caryssma, who at 1 1/2 yrs couldn't pronounce Marsha. So she called me Marma instead. I thought it was the cutest thing, so I named my company after it. Here at Marma Designs, I do a little bit of everything. I started with screen printing t-shirts and tote bags (that I made from scratch). Now I have moved on to making and printing pot holders and screen printing baby onesies. My options are pretty much endless.
So from here, I will post pictures every few days showing my latest designs. So hold on tight, this is going to be a crazy ride.
